The Naso Brevirostris, commonly referred to as the Short-nose Unicornfish, is a captivating addition to any large marine aquarium. Known for its distinctive body shape and subtle colouration, this tang species is peaceful and generally reef safe with caution.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is typically peaceful but can show territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar-shaped tangs. It is best housed singly or in a large tank with plenty of swimming space. Compatible with a wide range of other marine fish and invertebrates, it is suitable for mixed reef setups.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, the Naso Brevirostris thrives on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality dried seaweed sheets, spirulina, and occasional meaty foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: Due to its size and active swimming nature, a minimum tank size of 250 litres is recommended. Provide ample open swimming areas along with live rock for grazing and shelter.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and good water quality with regular water changes.
Overall, the Naso Brevirostris is a stunning and hardy tang that adds elegance and movement to large reef aquariums when cared for with appropriate husbandry.
