Labroides dimidiatus, commonly known as the Cleaner Wrasse, is a captivating marine fish renowned for its symbiotic cleaning behaviour, where it removes parasites and dead tissue from other fish. This behaviour not only benefits the host fish but also adds dynamic interest to your marine aquarium.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Cleaner Wrasses require stable, mature reef systems and a well-established population of client fish to thrive.
Temperament: Generally peaceful and non-aggressive. They interact positively with other fish species due to their cleaning role.
Diet: Primarily feeds on ectoparasites and dead tissue from other fish. In captivity, they may require supplemental feeding with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and specialised parasite-based diets.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate space and client fish for cleaning interactions.
Reef Safe: Yes. Cleaner Wrasses are safe for reef aquariums and do not harm corals or invertebrates.
