Anampses neoguinaicus is a visually captivating wrasse species native to the Indo-Pacific region. Known for its vibrant colouration and dynamic swimming patterns, this large wrasse makes an excellent addition to mature marine aquariums.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a well-maintained environment.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but may show territorial behaviour towards similar species. Best kept singly or in a large tank with ample hiding spots.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with prepared marine fish foods.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 150 litres is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space. A sandy substrate is essential to allow natural burrowing behaviour. Provide plenty of live rock for shelter and foraging.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. While generally reef safe, this wrasse may prey on small invertebrates such as shrimps and small crabs. Monitor closely if housed in reef tanks.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard marine aquarium lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Avoid strong currents that may stress the fish.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 25 cm (10 inches) in length.
