The Twist Wrasse (Anampses twistii) is a strikingly colourful wrasse native to the Indo-Pacific region. Known for its vibrant patterns and active swimming behaviour, this species makes an engaging addition to a mature marine aquarium.
Care Level: Moderate. The Twist Wrasse requires stable water conditions and a well-established tank with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar-shaped wrasses. Best kept singly or in a large aquarium with ample space.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and specialised frozen marine fish foods. Regular feeding 2-3 times daily is recommended.
Minimum Tank Size: 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide sufficient swimming space and territory.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. While generally reef safe, the Twist Wrasse may prey on small invertebrates such as shrimp and small crabs. Careful monitoring is advised in reef setups.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard moderate lighting and moderate water flow are suitable, replicating natural reef conditions.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for shelter and grazing. The wrasse will appreciate a sandy substrate to burrow into when resting or feeling threatened.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 20 cm (8 inches) in length.
Overall, the Twist Wrasse is a lively and attractive fish that can thrive in a well-maintained marine aquarium with appropriate care and tank mates.
