Chrysiptera talboti, commonly known as Talbot’s Damselfish, is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its vibrant blue and yellow colouring and robust nature. This species is suitable for both beginner and experienced hobbyists.
Temperament and Compatibility: Talbot’s Damselfish are moderately territorial and can be aggressive towards conspecifics or similar-sized fish, especially in smaller tanks. They are generally compatible with a variety of other marine species but should be housed with caution alongside more peaceful or slow-moving fish.
Diet: Omnivorous by nature, Chrysiptera talboti readily accepts a varied diet including high-quality marine flakes, pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial behaviour. The aquarium should be well-established with live rock for hiding and grazing.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.020-1.025 SG, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: Generally considered reef safe with caution, as they may nip at small or delicate invertebrates and corals if not well-fed or if stressed.
