Amphiprion biaculeatus, commonly referred to as the Spinecheek Anemonefish, is a striking species prized for its unique appearance and relatively peaceful nature. This medium-sized clownfish reaches up to 12 cm in length and is best suited to marine aquariums of at least 75 litres.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Amphiprion biaculeatus can be kept singly or in pairs. It may show mild territorial behaviour, especially when hosting anemones. Compatible with other peaceful fish species, it should not be housed with aggressive tank mates.
Diet: This species is omnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres is advised to provide ample swimming space and territory. Stable water parameters with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH 8.1-8.4 are essential.
Reef Compatibility: Reef safe with caution. Amphiprion biaculeatus often forms symbiotic relationships with certain anemones but may nip at corals or invertebrates if stressed or hungry.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow are ideal to mimic natural reef conditions.
Placement: Provide live rock structures and, if possible, host anemones such as Heteractis crispa or Stichodactyla haddoni to encourage natural behaviour.
