Antennarius striatus, commonly known as the Striated Frogfish, is a remarkable marine fish prized for its extraordinary camouflage and ambush predation. This small variant is suitable for marine aquarium enthusiasts with experience in maintaining specialised carnivorous species.
In the aquarium, the Striated Frogfish thrives in a mature tank environment of at least 75 litres, providing ample live rock and crevices for hiding. Its sedentary nature and slow movements make it a fascinating display fish, though it requires careful feeding and tankmate selection.
Diet consists primarily of live or frozen meaty foods such as small crustaceans and fish. Feeding should be done cautiously to prevent overfeeding and maintain water quality. Compatibility with other peaceful species is possible, but avoid small fish or invertebrates that may be viewed as prey.
Water parameters should be stable, with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and moderate water flow. Lighting requirements are not demanding, but subdued lighting helps mimic its natural habitat and reduces stress.
Due to its specialised care needs and predatory behaviour, the Striated Frogfish is recommended for advanced hobbyists familiar with marine carnivores.
