The Sufflamen bursa, commonly known as the Boomerang Triggerfish, is a captivating species prized for its distinctive markings and dynamic behaviour. This large triggerfish is best suited to experienced marine aquarium keepers due to its size and temperament.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires stable water parameters and a well-maintained environment.
Temperament and Compatibility: Sufflamen bursa can be territorial and assertive, especially in smaller tanks. It is generally compatible with other robust fish species but may harass smaller or more passive tankmates. Avoid housing with very small or delicate fish.
Diet: This species is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including meaty foods such as crustaceans, molluscs, and prepared marine fish foods. Regular feeding of frozen or live foods will help maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 250 litres (approximately 65 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial aggression. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding and grazing opportunities.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard moderate lighting is sufficient. Moderate water flow mimicking natural reef currents is ideal to keep the fish comfortable and healthy.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. While Sufflamen bursa may coexist in some reef setups, it has the potential to nip at invertebrates and corals, so careful monitoring is advised.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Up to 30 cm (12 inches).
