The Fluor Green Leather Coral (Sarcophyton spp.) is a captivating soft coral known for its bright fluorescent green colouration and distinctive mushroom-shaped polyps. This medium-sized specimen is ideal for hobbyists looking to add a splash of vibrant colour and movement to their reef aquariums.
Care Level: Moderate – suitable for aquarists with some experience in soft coral husbandry.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate to high lighting is recommended to maintain the coral’s vivid colour and healthy growth. LED or T5 lighting systems that provide a balanced spectrum work well.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal. Too strong a current can cause the polyps to retract, while too little flow may lead to detritus accumulation.
Placement: Position this leather coral on stable rockwork with enough space around it to allow for expansion and prevent contact with neighbouring corals, as it can exhibit mild allelopathic effects. A minimum spacing of 10cm from other corals is advised.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but will benefit from occasional feeding of fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton or coral-specific liquid supplements.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: Generally reef safe with adequate spacing. It is non-aggressive but may release chemical compounds that can affect sensitive corals nearby.
Additional Notes: Regular water quality maintenance is essential. Stable parameters with low nitrates and phosphates will promote optimal health. Avoid sudden changes in lighting or flow to reduce stress.
