Pterocaesio pisang, commonly known as the Pisang Fusilier, is a visually striking snapper species prized for its vibrant blue and yellow colouring and active schooling behaviour. This medium-sized fish is best suited to experienced marine aquarists with large tanks due to its active swimming needs and social nature.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended. The Pisang Fusilier requires stable water parameters and a spacious environment to thrive.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is peaceful and best kept in groups of five or more to mimic natural schooling behaviour. It coexists well with other peaceful fish but may be outcompeted by aggressive species. Avoid housing with large predatory fish.
Diet: Omnivorous, feeding primarily on zooplankton and small invertebrates in the wild. In captivity, provide a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended to accommodate their active swimming and schooling needs. Provide open swimming areas with some live rock for shelter.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef lighting is suitable. Moderate water flow mimicking natural reef currents is ideal to keep the fish healthy and active.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, they may nip at very small or delicate invertebrates. Monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 25 cm (10 inches) in length.
