Pseudobalistes fuscus, commonly called the Blue Triggerfish, is a visually impressive species known for its vibrant colours and bold personality. This small specimen is ideal for marine aquarists with experience in managing semi-aggressive fish.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water conditions and a well-maintained environment.
Temperament and Compatibility: The Blue Triggerfish is territorial and can be aggressive, especially towards smaller or more passive tank mates. It is best housed with similarly sized or larger robust fish. Avoid keeping with small, timid, or slow-moving species.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including meaty foods such as crustaceans, molluscs, and prepared marine fish foods to ensure optimal health.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 250 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial disputes. A tank with plenty of rockwork and hiding places helps mimic their natural reef environment and offers security.
Reef Safety: With Caution. This species may nip at invertebrates and corals, so it is not generally recommended for sensitive reef tanks.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard marine aquarium lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Ensure good water quality with stable parameters.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 50 cm in length in the wild; smaller sizes typical in captivity.
