Protula bispiralis (White) is a small, elegant tubeworm species prized for its delicate white plumed tentacles that gently sway in moderate water flow. This invertebrate is an excellent addition to marine reef aquariums, providing natural filtration and subtle visual interest.
Care and Husbandry: Protula bispiralis requires stable water parameters typical of reef environments, including a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025, and well-oxygenated water. Moderate water flow is ideal to facilitate feeding and waste removal without damaging the delicate tentacles.
Feeding should consist of fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton, microplankton, or specialised invertebrate feeds. Regular feeding 2-3 times per week supports healthy growth. This species is generally peaceful and reef safe, making it compatible with most reef inhabitants, including corals and fish.
Placement in the aquarium should be on stable rockwork or substrate where the tubeworm can anchor its tube securely. Avoid areas with strong direct currents or aggressive tankmates that may disturb or damage the worm.
Protula bispiralis (White) remains small in size, making it suitable for a variety of tank sizes, though a minimum of 60 litres is recommended to maintain stable water conditions.
