Odontanthias borbonius is a visually stunning anthias species prized for its vibrant hues and graceful swimming behaviour. This large variant can reach up to 15cm in length, making it a captivating centrepiece for mature marine aquariums.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Odontanthias borbonius coexists well with other non-aggressive fish species. It is best kept in groups or harems to encourage natural social behaviour, but care should be taken to avoid overcrowding or mixing with highly territorial species.
Diet: This species thrives on a varied diet consisting of high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding multiple times a day supports their active metabolism and vibrant colouration.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space. Stable water parameters with good filtration and moderate water flow are essential to mimic their natural reef environment.
Reef Compatibility: Odontanthias borbonius is considered reef safe with caution, as it generally ignores corals but may occasionally nip at very small or delicate invertebrates.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Suitable for aquarists with experience in maintaining stable marine conditions and managing social dynamics within anthias groups.
