Recognised for its distinctive red and white banded body and long white antennae, this shrimp is famed for its symbiotic cleaning behaviour, where it removes parasites and dead tissue from fish.

Care and Husbandry: Lysmata amboinensis is considered a hardy species suitable for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists. It thrives in well-established reef tanks with stable water parameters. A minimum tank size of 30 litres is recommended to provide adequate space and water quality.

They are omnivorous scavengers and will accept a varied diet including frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality pellet or flake foods. Supplementary feeding ensures optimal health and longevity.

Compatibility and Reef Safety: This species is generally peaceful and reef safe, making it an excellent addition to community reef tanks. It coexists well with most fish and invertebrates but may be at risk from predatory fish. Providing plenty of live rock and hiding places helps reduce stress.

Environmental Requirements: Maintain stable marine water conditions with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and moderate water flow. Lighting requirements are not critical but should support the overall reef environment.
