Linckia laevigata, commonly known as the Blue Linckia Starfish, is a popular and visually stunning invertebrate for marine aquariums. Recognisable by its vibrant blue colour and smooth arms, this starfish adds a unique touch to reef tanks and marine setups.
Care Level: Moderate care is recommended. Linckia laevigata requires stable water parameters and a well-established tank with plenty of live rock to graze on.
Diet: Primarily detritivores and scavengers, they feed on biofilm, algae, and leftover food. Supplementary feeding with small pieces of meaty foods or specialised starfish diets can be beneficial.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: This species is generally reef safe and peaceful, making it suitable for community reef tanks. However, avoid housing with aggressive fish or invertebrates that may harm the starfish.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient space and stable water conditions. Moderate water flow and stable lighting conditions are ideal.
Placement: Place Linckia laevigata on live rock or substrate where it can graze and move freely. Ensure the tank has plenty of hiding spots and surfaces covered with algae or biofilm.
Additional Notes: This starfish can regenerate lost arms but should be handled with care to avoid stress or injury. Quarantine new specimens to prevent the introduction of pests or diseases.
