The Passer Angelfish (Holacanthus passer) is a captivating marine fish prized for its vivid colouration and dynamic presence in the aquarium. This medium to large tank-bred specimen offers hobbyists a sustainable and hardy option compared to wild-caught counterparts.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally semi-aggressive, the Passer Angelfish can be territorial, especially in smaller tanks. It is best housed with other robust species and should not be kept with very small or timid fish. Careful consideration is needed when selecting tank mates to avoid conflict.
Diet: This species thrives on a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, high-quality angelfish pellets, and frozen meaty foods such as mysis shrimp. Regular feeding of vegetable matter is essential to maintain optimal health and vibrant colours.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 250 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory. The aquarium should be well-established with live rock for grazing and hiding spots.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. The Passer Angelfish may nip at corals and sessile invertebrates, so it is not generally recommended for reef tanks unless closely monitored.
Tank-bred specimens like this one are preferred for their acclimation to captive conditions, improved disease resistance, and reduced impact on wild populations.
