Haemulon chrysargyreum, commonly called the Goldeneye Grunt, is a visually striking snapper species prized by marine aquarists for its vibrant yellow eyes and peaceful nature. This extra large specimen is suitable for experienced hobbyists with spacious tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Goldeneye Grunt coexists well with other non-aggressive fish species. Avoid housing with overly territorial or predatory fish to prevent stress or injury.
Diet: This species is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with pellet or flake foods formulated for marine carnivores to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: Due to its potential size and active swimming behaviour, a minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended. Provide ample open swimming space along with hiding places created by rockwork to mimic its natural reef environment.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow. Regular water changes and high water quality are essential for optimal health.
Additional Notes: This species is not commonly tank-bred; wild-caught specimens require acclimatisation and careful monitoring. Suitable for advanced marine aquarists seeking a distinctive and peaceful snapper.
