Haemulon aurolineatum, commonly called the Goldline Grunt Snapper, is a visually striking marine fish prized for its shimmering gold stripes and peaceful temperament. This medium-sized snapper is a captivating addition to larger marine aquariums, especially those designed to accommodate active swimmers.
Care Level: Moderate care is recommended, with stable water parameters and a well-maintained environment.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Haemulon aurolineatum coexists well with other non-aggressive fish species. Avoid housing with overly territorial or predatory fish. Suitable for community reef tanks with caution, as it may occasionally nip at smaller invertebrates.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feeding multiple times daily in small amounts is ideal to mimic natural foraging behaviour.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space. Maintain stable marine water conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and pH 8.1-8.4.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard moderate lighting and moderate water flow suit this species well, replicating its natural reef-edge habitat.
Placement: Mid to lower levels of the tank, where it can swim freely and find shelter among rocks or coral structures.
Origin: Western Atlantic, including Caribbean waters.
Maximum Size: Approximately 25 cm in captivity.
With proper care, Haemulon aurolineatum can thrive and become a stunning focal point in your marine aquarium.
