Gramma dejongi, commonly known as the Royal Gramma or Golden Basslet, is a strikingly colourful marine fish prized for its vibrant purple and yellow hues. This tank-bred specimen ensures healthier, more adaptable livestock for your marine aquarium.
Temperament and Compatibility: Gramma dejongi is a peaceful and shy species, making it an excellent addition to community reef tanks. It generally coexists well with other non-aggressive fish but may show territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar-shaped basslets.
Diet: This species thrives on a varied diet consisting of high-quality frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with quality pellet or flake foods formulated for carnivorous marine fish.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and territory. The aquarium should be well-established with plenty of live rock for hiding places and natural grazing.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow. Lighting requirements are standard for reef tanks, as this species does not have specialised lighting needs.
Reef Compatibility: Gramma dejongi is considered reef safe and can be kept with corals and invertebrates without issue, provided it is not stressed or overcrowded.
Choose from various sizes of tank-bred Gramma dejongi to suit your aquarium setup and enjoy a splash of vibrant colour with this hardy and peaceful basslet.
