Serranus tortugarum, commonly known as the Tortuga Basslet, is a captivating addition to any marine aquarium. This tank-bred specimen ensures healthier acclimation and reduces wild collection impact.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Serranus tortugarum coexists well with other non-aggressive fish species. It may display mild territorial behaviour, so avoid housing with overly aggressive tank mates.
Diet: This carnivorous basslet thrives on a varied diet including high-quality frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped marine meaty foods. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres is advised to provide ample swimming space and territory. Maintain stable water parameters typical of reef aquariums: temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and pH 8.1-8.4.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, monitor interactions with small invertebrates and corals as some basslets may nip at polyps.
Care Level: Moderate. Suitable for aquarists with some marine experience.
Origin: Not Provided (tank-bred specimens).
Sizes Available: Various sizes to suit different aquarium setups.
