Goniopora spp. (Special Selected) Frag is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its distinctive flower-like polyps that gently sway with aquarium currents, adding dynamic movement and vibrant colour to your reef display.
This frag is cultured under controlled conditions, ensuring healthy growth and acclimatisation to captive environments. As the genus includes multiple species, care should be conservative and tailored to general Goniopora husbandry best practices.
Care and Husbandry
- Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended, ideally using LED or T5 fixtures that provide a balanced spectrum. Avoid sudden intense light changes to prevent stress.
- Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is preferred to gently move the polyps without causing tissue damage.
- Placement: Position the frag on a stable rock or frag plug in a well-established reef tank, allowing adequate space from neighbouring corals to prevent aggression. Mid to lower levels of the aquarium are generally suitable.
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable reef conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, calcium 400-450 ppm, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and magnesium 1250-1350 ppm.
- Feeding: While Goniopora spp. derive nutrition from photosynthesis via symbiotic zooxanthellae, supplemental feeding with fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton, marine snow, or specialised coral foods 2-3 times weekly can enhance growth and colour.
Additional Notes
Goniopora corals are considered moderately challenging and are best suited to aquarists with some experience in LPS coral care. Patience and consistent water quality are key to successful cultivation.
