Gnathanodon speciosus, commonly known as the Golden Trevally, is a visually impressive member of the Carangidae family. This extra extra large tank-bred specimen is ideal for experienced marine aquarists with spacious setups.
Temperament and Compatibility: The Golden Trevally is generally peaceful but can exhibit territorial behaviour, especially in confined spaces. It is best housed with similarly sized, non-aggressive tank mates. Avoid keeping with very small or timid species to prevent stress or predation.
Diet: This species is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including meaty foods such as chopped seafood, crustaceans, and high-quality marine pellets. Regular feeding 2-3 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: Due to its large adult size, a minimum tank size of 500 litres is advised to provide ample swimming space. Strong water flow and excellent filtration are essential to maintain water quality and mimic natural conditions.
Lighting and Placement: Moderate lighting is suitable. Provide open swimming areas with some shaded regions created by rockwork or décor to allow natural behaviour.
Origin: Tank-bred specimens, ensuring better adaptation to aquarium life and reduced impact on wild populations.
Maximum Size: Can grow up to 90 cm in captivity, requiring long-term commitment and appropriate tank dimensions.
