The Entacmaea quadricolor, commonly known as the bubble tip anemone, is a popular choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts seeking a vibrant and dynamic invertebrate. This large Red-Green variant displays a captivating blend of colours, adding a stunning focal point to reef tanks.
Care and Husbandry: This species requires stable water parameters and moderate lighting, ideally moderate to high intensity with LED or T5 lighting systems. Moderate water flow is preferred to mimic natural reef conditions without causing excessive stress.
Placement should be on rockwork with enough space to expand fully, avoiding close proximity to corals that may be stung by its tentacles. It is reef safe with caution, as it can sting neighbouring corals and invertebrates.
Feeding: While Entacmaea quadricolor benefits from photosynthesis via its symbiotic zooxanthellae, supplemental feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialised invertebrate pellets 1-2 times per week will promote health and growth.
Compatibility: This anemone is compatible with clownfish species, which often form symbiotic relationships. However, care should be taken with other tank inhabitants, as some fish and invertebrates may nip or disturb the anemone.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate space and stable water conditions.
Regular monitoring of water quality, including stable salinity, temperature (24-27°C), and low nutrient levels, is essential for long-term success.
