Entacmaea quadricolor, commonly known as the Bubble Tip Anemone, is a visually striking invertebrate prized in the marine aquarium hobby. This large specimen features bulbous tentacle tips that can vary in colour from green, red, to brown, often with iridescent highlights.
Care Level: Moderate care is recommended. Stable water parameters and appropriate lighting are essential for long-term health.
Feeding: While Entacmaea quadricolor obtains nutrients through photosynthesis via its symbiotic zooxanthellae, it benefits from supplemental feeding. Offer meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood 1-2 times per week.
Compatibility: This anemone is generally reef safe but should be kept with caution around certain invertebrates and fish that may nip at its tentacles. It forms mutualistic relationships with clownfish species, which can host within its tentacles.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate to high lighting is necessary to support its photosynthetic symbionts. LED or T5 lighting systems with a spectrum suitable for photosynthetic invertebrates are ideal.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow is preferred to ensure adequate gas exchange without causing excessive tentacle movement.
Placement: Provide a stable rock base or crevice where the anemone can attach securely. Avoid placing near aggressive corals or in areas with strong direct flow.
Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to accommodate its growth and maintain stable water quality.
With proper care, Entacmaea quadricolor can be a long-lived and captivating centrepiece in a marine reef aquarium.
