Diploprion bifasciatum, commonly called the Two-Band Grouper, is a captivating marine fish known for its distinctive black and yellow banding. This medium-sized grouper is a fascinating addition to larger marine aquariums, offering both visual appeal and interesting behaviour.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water conditions and a well-established tank.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. Diploprion bifasciatum can be territorial, especially towards smaller or more passive tankmates. It is best housed with similarly sized or larger species to avoid stress or predation.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet of meaty foods such as live or frozen crustaceans, small fish, and high-quality marine pellets. Regular feeding 2-3 times per week is recommended.
Minimum Tank Size: At least 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and territories.
Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient; no special lighting needed.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow to mimic natural reef environments.
Placement: Provide plenty of rockwork and hiding places to allow natural behaviour and reduce stress. Position in a quieter area of the tank away from overly aggressive species.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 20 cm (approximately 8 inches) in length.
Reef Safe: With Caution. Diploprion bifasciatum may prey on smaller invertebrates and fish, so it is not recommended for delicate reef tanks with small or peaceful species.
