Cirrhilabrus isosceles, commonly known as the male Isosceles wrasse, is a strikingly colourful species prized by marine aquarium enthusiasts. Native to the Indo-Pacific region, this wrasse displays vibrant hues and dynamic behaviour, making it a captivating centrepiece for mature reef tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is generally peaceful and compatible with other non-aggressive tank mates. It is best kept singly or in a harem (one male with multiple females) to avoid territorial disputes. Avoid housing with overly aggressive fish to maintain harmony.
Diet: Cirrhilabrus isosceles is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including high-quality frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and specialised marine pellets or flakes. Regular feeding 2-3 times daily is recommended to maintain health and vibrant colouration.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space and establish territories. The aquarium should be well-established with live rock to offer hiding places and grazing surfaces.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow. Regular water changes and excellent filtration are essential for optimal health.
Reef Compatibility: This species is considered reef safe and can be kept in reef aquariums without posing a threat to corals or invertebrates.
Additional Notes: Cirrhilabrus isosceles males are available in various sizes, allowing hobbyists to select specimens suitable for their tank maturity and size. Acclimate carefully to reduce stress and monitor for signs of illness.
