Chrysiptera hemicyanea, commonly known as the Half-Blue Damselfish, is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its vivid colours and robust nature. This tank-bred specimen ensures healthier acclimation and reduces wild population impact.
Appearance: The Half-Blue Damselfish displays a striking contrast of bright blue on the anterior half of its body and a vibrant yellow on the posterior half, making it a visually appealing addition to any marine tank.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is moderately territorial and can exhibit aggression towards conspecifics or smaller, more passive fish. It is best kept singly or as a mated pair in community tanks with similarly sized or larger peaceful species. Avoid housing with very timid or slow-moving fish.
Diet: An omnivorous feeder, Chrysiptera hemicyanea thrives on a varied diet including high-quality marine flakes, pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding two to three times daily is recommended.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is advised to provide sufficient swimming space and reduce territorial disputes. The aquarium should feature plenty of live rock for shelter and grazing.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow. Moderate lighting is suitable, compatible with reef setups.
Reef Compatibility: Generally reef safe, though caution is advised as some individuals may nip at coral polyps or clam mantles. Monitor behaviour closely when introduced to sensitive reef environments.
Origin: Tank-bred in controlled aquaculture facilities, ensuring sustainability and disease resistance.
