The Choerodon fasciatus, or Harlequin Tuskfish, is a visually captivating wrasse native to Australian reefs. Recognised for its vivid blue teeth and bold orange and blue banding, this species adds a splash of colour and dynamic behaviour to mature marine aquariums.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a well-established tank.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. It can be territorial, especially towards smaller or more passive tankmates.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including meaty foods such as crustaceans, molluscs, and high-quality frozen or live marine preparations.
Minimum Tank Size: At least 250 litres (approximately 65 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and territory.
Reef Safety: With Caution. May prey on small invertebrates and can disturb reef inhabitants.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard marine aquarium lighting and moderate water flow are suitable.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for hiding and territory establishment. Ensure secure tank lids as this species can be an active jumper.

Maximum Size: Up to 30 cm (12 inches) in captivity.
Due to its size and temperament, the Harlequin Tuskfish is best suited to experienced hobbyists with adequately sized tanks and compatible tankmates. Regular monitoring and a balanced diet will help maintain its vibrant colours and health.
