Choerodon anchorago, commonly known as the Anchorago Wrasse, is a medium-sized marine fish prized for its vibrant colours and dynamic swimming behaviour. This species is ideal for experienced marine aquarists due to its specific care requirements and active temperament.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This wrasse requires stable water parameters and a well-established aquarium.
Temperament and Compatibility: Choerodon anchorago is semi-aggressive and can be territorial, especially towards smaller or more passive tankmates. It is best housed with similarly sized or larger robust fish. Avoid keeping with very small or timid species.
Diet: Carnivorous. Provide a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, krill, chopped seafood, and specialised marine pellets. Regular feeding supports vibrant colouration and health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory. The aquarium should include plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient. Moderate water flow mimicking natural reef currents is ideal to keep the fish active and healthy.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While not inherently reef destructive, Choerodon anchorago may prey on smaller invertebrates and disturb corals. It is best kept in fish-only or fish-dominant reef setups.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 30 cm (12 inches) in length.
