The Seed Butterflyfish (Chaetodon semeion) is a visually captivating species prized for its distinctive spotted pattern and graceful swimming behaviour. This medium-sized butterflyfish is best suited to experienced marine aquarists due to its specific dietary and environmental needs.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Seed Butterflyfish can coexist with other non-aggressive fish species. However, it may become territorial towards conspecifics or similar butterflyfish species. It is not reef safe as it may nip at coral polyps and invertebrates.
Diet: In the aquarium, provide a varied diet including specialised marine preparations such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality frozen or live foods. Supplement with algae-based foods to mimic natural feeding habits.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 150 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and maintain water quality. Stable water parameters with moderate flow and lighting are ideal. Regular maintenance and water changes will support the health of this species.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced due to dietary specificity and sensitivity to water quality fluctuations.
