Cerithium caeruleum is a popular marine snail species prized for its algae-grazing capabilities and contribution to maintaining a clean aquarium environment. Available in various sizes, these snails are suitable for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists.
Care and Husbandry: Cerithium caeruleum thrives in well-established marine tanks with stable water parameters. They prefer a tank with a minimum size of 30 litres to ensure sufficient space and food availability. These snails are reef safe and compatible with most peaceful tank inhabitants.
They feed primarily on microalgae, detritus, and biofilm, helping to control nuisance algae growth. Supplementary feeding with algae wafers or blanched vegetables can be provided if natural food sources are limited.
Water Parameters: Maintain temperature between 22-26°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 specific gravity, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow. Lighting requirements are not critical but moderate lighting supports algae growth, which benefits their diet.
Compatibility: These snails are peaceful and reef safe, making them excellent additions to reef tanks. Avoid housing with aggressive predators such as certain wrasses or pufferfish that may prey on them.
Placement: They are best placed on the substrate or rockwork where they can graze effectively. Providing a sandy or fine gravel substrate allows natural burrowing behaviour.
