The Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loriculus) is one of the most sought-after dwarf angelfish species in the marine aquarium hobby, prized for its brilliant red-orange body adorned with vertical black bars and electric blue highlights on the fins. Our specimens are tank-bred, ensuring healthier fish with better acclimation to captive conditions and reduced impact on wild populations.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Flame Angelfish require stable water parameters and a well-established aquarium.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally semi-aggressive, especially towards conspecifics or similar species. Best kept singly or as a mated pair in larger tanks. Compatible with a variety of reef-safe fish but may nip at corals or clam mantles, so caution is advised in reef setups.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and specialised angelfish preparations to maintain vibrant colour and health.
Minimum Tank Size: 114 litres (30 gallons) recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Ensure plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding places.
Placement: Mid to lower levels of the aquarium, where it can graze on algae and establish territory.
Origin: Tank-bred specimens, originally native to the central Pacific Ocean.
Maximum Size: Up to 12 cm (4.7 inches) in length.
Choosing a tank-bred Flame Angelfish supports sustainable aquarium keeping and often results in a more robust and adaptable fish. Regular monitoring for signs of aggression and coral nipping is advised to maintain harmony in mixed reef systems.
