Centropyge Acanthops, commonly known as the African Pygmy Angelfish, is a small but striking species prized for its vivid colours and active behaviour. This dwarf angelfish is best suited for marine aquariums with stable water parameters and plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires consistent water quality and a mature tank environment.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. Can be territorial, especially towards other dwarf angelfish or similar species. Best kept singly or in a large tank with ample hiding spaces.
Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and specialised angelfish preparations to ensure optimal health and colouration.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 114 litres (30 gallons) recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and territory. A well-established reef or fish-only system with live rock is essential for grazing and shelter.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. May nip at corals and sessile invertebrates, so monitor closely if housed in reef tanks.
Lighting & Water Flow: Standard reef lighting and moderate water flow are suitable to mimic natural habitat conditions.
Origin: Western Indian Ocean, including the east coast of Africa.
Maximum Size: Approximately 10 cm (4 inches).
Providing a stable environment with regular feeding and careful tankmate selection will help this beautiful angelfish thrive in your marine aquarium.
