Blastomussa wellsi (Red) Medium Frag is a striking large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its vibrant red coloration and fleshy polyps. This frag consists of three healthy heads, cultivated through responsible tank-bred methods to ensure sustainability and resilience in captive reef aquariums.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate lighting is ideal for Blastomussa wellsi. It thrives under LED or T5 lighting systems providing a PAR range of approximately 50-150 µmol/m²/s. Avoid intense direct light to prevent bleaching.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is recommended. This ensures adequate nutrient delivery without causing tissue damage or excessive polyp retraction.
Placement: Position this coral on the substrate or lower to middle sections of the rockwork. Provide sufficient space from neighbouring corals to prevent aggressive interactions, as Blastomussa can extend sweeper tentacles.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate aquarists familiar with LPS coral husbandry. Maintain stable water parameters with regular testing and supplementation of calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near aggressive corals that may outcompete or sting it.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae but benefits from occasional feeding of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods to promote growth and colour vibrancy.
Additional Notes: This medium frag is grown by DJM, ensuring high-quality, healthy specimens acclimatised to aquarium conditions. Regular water changes and stable parameters will support optimal health.
