Anampses meleagrides, commonly called the Spotted Wrasse, is a visually striking marine fish prized for its vibrant colours and distinctive spotted pattern. This small wrasse is a captivating addition to mature marine aquariums, especially those with plenty of live rock and hiding places.
Care Level: Moderate – best suited to aquarists with some marine experience.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar species. It coexists well with other peaceful fish.
Diet: Carnivorous; thrives on a varied diet of meaty foods including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and specialised marine pellets or flakes.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and territory.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution – may nip at small invertebrates or sessile animals, so monitor closely in reef setups.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow are ideal to mimic natural reef conditions.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for shelter and foraging. Ensure the tank is well-established with stable water parameters.

Maximum Size: Up to 15 cm (6 inches) in length.
Regular water changes and stable water chemistry are essential for maintaining health. Avoid aggressive tank mates and provide a varied diet to ensure vibrant colouration and longevity.
