The Amphiprion polymnus, commonly known as the Saddleback Clownfish, is a captivating addition to any marine aquarium. This pair of Tank-Bred clownfish is available in various sizes, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced hobbyists.
Recognisable by their distinctive black body with a white saddle marking across the back, these clownfish are peaceful and generally compatible with other non-aggressive tank mates. They thrive best when provided with a host anemone such as Heteractis crispa or Stichodactyla haddoni, although they can adapt to aquariums without anemones if given ample hiding spaces.
Care Requirements: Amphiprion polymnus requires a minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) to ensure adequate swimming space and territory. Maintain stable water parameters typical of reef aquariums: temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH 8.1-8.4.
Diet should be varied and include high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and occasional algae-based foods to ensure optimal health and vibrant coloration.
These clownfish are reef safe with caution; while generally peaceful, they may occasionally nip at corals or sessile invertebrates, especially if stressed or during breeding periods.
Adding a pair helps reduce aggression commonly seen in solitary clownfish, promoting natural social behaviour and breeding potential in captivity.
