The Tank-Bred Clownfish (Amphiprion percula) is one of the most popular and recognisable marine fish in the aquarium hobby. Known for its striking orange body with white bands outlined in black, this species is a hardy and peaceful addition to most reef aquariums.
Originating from the Indo-Pacific region, Amphiprion percula thrives in well-maintained marine tanks and is widely bred in captivity, ensuring sustainable and ethical sourcing. This small-sized variant is ideal for tanks starting from 75 litres (20 gallons) upwards.
Care and Husbandry: Amphiprion percula is a relatively easy species to care for, making it suitable for beginners and experienced keepers alike. They are omnivorous and will accept a variety of foods including high-quality pellets, flakes, frozen mysis shrimp, and marine algae. Feeding should be done 1-2 times daily to maintain optimal health.
They are generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially when paired or kept with anemones. Compatibility with other peaceful reef inhabitants is usually good, but avoid housing with aggressive species.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and stable water parameters. Stable water conditions with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025, and pH between 8.1-8.4 are ideal.
Lighting and water flow should mimic natural reef conditions: moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water movement are preferred. Placement in the aquarium should allow for hiding spots and potential host anemones if desired, although Amphiprion percula can thrive without one.
This Tank-Bred Clownfish is reef safe and can be kept in reef aquariums with corals and invertebrates without concern.
