Amphiprion latifasciatus, commonly known as the Wide-Banded Clownfish, is a captivating species prized for its bold white bands and vibrant orange body. This medium-sized clownfish is a peaceful and hardy choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts, especially those maintaining reef tanks.
In captivity, Amphiprion latifasciatus thrives in well-maintained marine aquariums with stable water parameters. They are generally compatible with other peaceful fish and invertebrates, making them suitable for community reef setups. However, they may show territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar clownfish species, so careful consideration is advised when housing multiple clownfish.
Diet-wise, this species is omnivorous and accepts a variety of foods including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feeding should be done 1-2 times daily to maintain optimal health.
For husbandry, a minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory. Stable water conditions with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4 are ideal. Moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow will mimic their natural reef environment.
Amphiprion latifasciatus is reef safe, posing no threat to corals or sessile invertebrates, making it an excellent choice for reef aquarium hobbyists.
