Allard’s Clownfish (Amphiprion allardi) are a captivating species native to the Western Indian Ocean, prized for their bright orange bodies with distinctive white bands. These tank-bred specimens offer a sustainable and hardy option for marine aquarium enthusiasts.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful and suitable for community reef tanks, Allard’s Clownfish can coexist with other non-aggressive species. They may show territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar clownfish species, so it is advisable to keep only one per tank or a compatible mated pair.
Diet: Omnivorous by nature, they thrive on a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, flakes, frozen mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily supports vibrant colouration and health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and territory. Stable water parameters with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and good filtration are essential.
Reef Compatibility: Allard’s Clownfish are considered reef safe and can be kept with corals and invertebrates without risk of harm, making them an excellent choice for reef aquariums.
Additional Care: Providing host anemones such as Entacmaea quadricolor (Bubble Tip Anemone) can enhance natural behaviour, though they will readily accept artificial hosts or rockwork. Regular water changes and monitoring of water quality will ensure long-term health.
