Haemulon flavolineatum, commonly known as the French Grunt, is a beautifully patterned snapper native to the western Atlantic. This large tank-bred specimen is an excellent choice for marine aquarists seeking a peaceful, visually striking fish.
Temperament and Compatibility: The French Grunt is generally peaceful and can be housed with other non-aggressive species. It is best kept in groups or pairs to mimic natural schooling behaviour but ensure adequate space to reduce territorial disputes.
Diet: This species is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Feeding multiple times daily in small portions is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: Due to its potential size of up to 30 cm, a minimum tank size of 180 litres is advised to provide ample swimming space. Moderate water flow and stable water parameters are essential. The French Grunt appreciates a well-decorated tank with live rock for shelter and grazing.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate marine aquarists familiar with maintaining stable water quality and providing a balanced diet.
