The Lane Snapper (Lutjanus synagris) is a visually captivating marine fish prized for its distinctive colouration and dynamic behaviour. This large tank-bred specimen is well-suited for advanced marine aquarium enthusiasts who can provide the space and care it requires.
Temperament and Compatibility: Lane Snappers are moderately aggressive and territorial, especially as they mature. They are best housed with similarly sized or larger robust fish to avoid stress or predation. Avoid keeping with very small or timid species.
Diet: This carnivorous species thrives on a diet of meaty foods such as crustaceans, molluscs, and high-quality frozen or live marine preparations. Regular feeding with varied protein sources supports optimal health and vibrant colouration.
Tank Requirements: Due to their potential size and active swimming behaviour, a minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended. Provide ample swimming space with robust rockwork for shelter and territory establishment.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and good water quality through efficient filtration and regular maintenance. Moderate water flow is ideal to simulate natural reef-edge habitats.
Reef Safety: With Caution. Lane Snappers may prey on smaller invertebrates and fish, so they are not recommended for delicate reef setups.
