The Entacmaea quadricolor, commonly known as the Orange Tip Bubble Tip Anemone, is a striking addition to any mature marine aquarium. This extra large specimen displays vivid orange tips on its tentacles, making it a visually captivating invertebrate for experienced hobbyists.
Care and Husbandry: This species thrives under moderate lighting conditions, ideally provided by LED or T5 aquarium lights that simulate natural reef environments. Moderate water flow is recommended to ensure the anemone’s tentacles gently sway without being damaged by strong currents.
Placement within the tank should be on a stable rock or substrate where the anemone can attach securely. It is important to allow sufficient space around the anemone to prevent stinging neighbouring corals or invertebrates.
Feeding: While Entacmaea quadricolor benefits from photosynthesis via its symbiotic zooxanthellae, supplemental feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood once or twice weekly will promote optimal health and growth.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: This anemone is generally reef safe with caution, as its stinging tentacles can harm nearby corals and small invertebrates. It forms natural symbiotic relationships with certain clownfish species, which can be housed together safely.
Additional Notes: Due to its size and care requirements, this extra large specimen is recommended for aquarists with intermediate to advanced experience. Stable water parameters and a mature tank environment are essential for long-term success.
