The Entacmaea quadricolor, commonly known as the Bubble Tip Anemone, is a popular and visually stunning addition to marine aquariums. This extra large green variant offers vibrant colouration and dynamic movement, making it a focal point in any reef setup.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and attentive husbandry.
Feeding: While Entacmaea quadricolor can derive nutrition from photosynthesis via their symbiotic zooxanthellae, supplemental feeding is recommended. Offer finely chopped meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialised invertebrate pellets 1-2 times per week to promote health and growth.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Generally reef safe, but with caution. This anemone may sting nearby corals and invertebrates, so provide adequate space to prevent damage. It is compatible with certain clownfish species, which may host within its tentacles.
Lighting and Water Flow: Requires moderate to high lighting to support photosynthesis. LED or T5 lighting systems are suitable. Moderate water flow is ideal to gently move the tentacles without causing stress.
Placement: Place on a stable rock or substrate area with enough space to expand fully. Avoid areas with strong direct currents or close proximity to delicate corals.
Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient space and stable water conditions.
Origin: Tank-bred specimens are preferred for sustainability and acclimatisation benefits.
Maximum Size: Can reach up to 30 cm (12 inches) in diameter when fully expanded.
