Haemulon aurolineatum, commonly called the Goldenlined Snapper, is a visually striking species prized by marine aquarium enthusiasts. This extra large specimen displays vibrant golden stripes along its body, making it a captivating centrepiece for large marine tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is generally peaceful but can be semi-aggressive towards smaller or more timid tankmates. It is best kept with similarly sized, robust fish and in groups to mimic its natural schooling behaviour. Avoid housing with very small or slow-moving species.
Diet: Haemulon aurolineatum is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Feeding multiple times daily in small portions is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: Due to its size and active nature, a minimum tank size of 300 litres is advised. Provide ample swimming space with open areas and some rockwork for shelter. Maintain stable water parameters with good filtration and moderate water flow.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water conditions and a suitably large aquarium to thrive.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, this snapper may prey on smaller invertebrates and fish, so it is not recommended for delicate reef systems.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Approximately 30 cm in captivity.
