Babylonia zeylanica is a marine gastropod mollusc known for its distinctive patterned shell and its usefulness in maintaining aquarium cleanliness. This species is popular among marine aquarium enthusiasts for its scavenging behaviour, helping to consume detritus and uneaten food.
Care and Husbandry: Babylonia zeylanica thrives in well-established marine tanks with stable water parameters. They prefer sandy or fine substrate to burrow and forage effectively. A minimum tank size of 30 litres is recommended to provide adequate space and water quality.
Feeding primarily consists of leftover meaty foods, detritus, and organic matter within the aquarium. Supplementary feeding with sinking pellets or frozen foods such as mysis shrimp can be beneficial, especially in tanks with low natural food availability.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: This species is generally peaceful and compatible with most reef inhabitants. It is considered reef safe as it does not harm corals or sessile invertebrates. However, care should be taken when housing with predatory fish or invertebrates that may prey on snails.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 22-26°C, salinity around 1.023-1.025 SG, and good water quality with regular water changes. Moderate water flow is preferred to avoid sediment buildup but should not be excessively strong to prevent stress.
Babylonia zeylanica is available in various sizes, allowing aquarists to select specimens suitable for their tank size and setup.
