Macrodactyla doreensis is a captivating large sea anemone prized for its elegant, long tentacles and subtle colour variations. This species is best suited for advanced hobbyists due to its specific care requirements and feeding needs.
Feeding: Macrodactyla doreensis benefits from regular feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and specialised anemone pellets. Feeding 2-3 times weekly supports optimal health and growth.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: This anemone is generally reef safe with caution. It can host certain anemonefish species but may sting nearby corals or invertebrates if placed too closely. Maintain adequate spacing to prevent aggression.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient space and water quality stability. Moderate water flow and moderate lighting are ideal to mimic natural conditions without causing stress.
Placement: Position Macrodactyla doreensis on sandy or rubble substrate where it can anchor securely. Avoid placing near aggressive corals or fast-moving fish that may harm the anemone.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and low nutrient levels. Regular water changes and monitoring are essential.
With attentive care, this large anemone can be a stunning and dynamic addition to a mature marine aquarium.
