Macrodactyla doreensis, commonly referred to as the Bubble Tip Anemone, is a captivating addition to mature marine aquariums. This extra large specimen features characteristic bulbous tentacles that provide shelter for clownfish and other compatible species.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and consistent care to thrive.
Feeding: While capable of deriving nutrition from photosynthesis via symbiotic zooxanthellae, supplemental feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood 1-2 times per week is recommended to promote health and growth.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: Generally reef safe with caution. Macrodactyla doreensis can coexist with many reef inhabitants but may sting nearby corals or invertebrates if tentacles come into contact. It is compatible with clownfish species, which often form symbiotic relationships.
Lighting & Water Flow: Moderate lighting is ideal to support its photosynthetic needs without causing stress. Water flow should be moderate to gentle, mimicking natural reef conditions to prevent damage to the delicate tentacles.
Placement: Position on stable rockwork or substrate where it can attach securely. Avoid areas with strong currents or direct intense lighting.
Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate space and stable water quality.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 30 cm in diameter when fully expanded.
