The Heteractis magnifica, commonly known as the Magnificent Sea Anemone, is a spectacular and visually striking invertebrate prized in marine aquariums. This extra large specimen offers a dramatic display with its vibrant colours and long, flowing tentacles.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a mature tank environment.
Feeding: While Heteractis magnifica derives much of its nutrition from photosynthetic symbiotic zooxanthellae, it benefits from supplemental feeding. Offer small pieces of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood 1-2 times per week.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: Generally reef safe, but caution is advised as its long tentacles can sting neighbouring corals and invertebrates. It is compatible with certain clownfish species, which often form symbiotic relationships with this anemone.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 150 litres is recommended to provide ample space and stable water conditions. Lighting should be strong, preferably moderate to high intensity LED or T5 lighting, to support its photosynthetic needs. Moderate water flow is ideal to gently move tentacles without causing damage.
Placement: Place the anemone on a stable rock or substrate where it can attach securely. Avoid areas with strong direct flow or close proximity to delicate corals.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Can reach up to 50 cm in diameter under optimal conditions.
