Bartholomea annulata, also known as the Ringed Anemone, is a striking addition to marine aquariums, prized for its distinctive banded tentacles and symbiotic relationships with certain shrimp and fish species. Available in various sizes, this anemone is suitable for hobbyists with some experience in invertebrate care.
Care and Husbandry
This species requires a well-established tank with stable water parameters. A minimum tank size of 75 litres is recommended to provide adequate space and water quality. Moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow are ideal to mimic its natural environment and promote healthy tentacle extension.
Feeding
Bartholomea annulata benefits from supplemental feeding with meaty foods such as finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, or specialised anemone pellets. Feeding 2-3 times per week is sufficient, as they also derive nutrition from photosynthetic symbionts.
Compatibility and Reef Safety
This anemone is generally reef safe but should be kept with caution. It may sting nearby corals or invertebrates if placed too close. It is compatible with certain anemonefish and symbiotic shrimp species, which can enhance the natural behaviour display.
Placement
Position the anemone on a stable rock or substrate area with moderate lighting and water flow. Avoid placing it near aggressive corals or species that may harm it. Ensure the tank is mature and stable before introducing this species.
