The Pink Skunk Clownfish (Amphiprion perideraion) is a visually captivating species prized for its gentle temperament and unique coloration. This large variant displays a pale pink to peach body with a prominent white stripe running along the dorsal ridge, giving it the ‘skunk’ name.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, this clownfish coexists well with other non-aggressive species. It is suitable for community reef tanks but may show territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar clownfish species. Compatible tank mates include gobies, blennies, and small wrasses.
Diet: Omnivorous by nature, the Pink Skunk Clownfish thrives on a varied diet comprising high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily supports optimal health and vibrant colouration.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial stress. Stable water parameters with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.020-1.025 SG, and good filtration are essential.
Reef Safety: This species is considered reef safe and can be kept with corals and sessile invertebrates without risk of harm.
Additional Care: Providing anemones such as Heteractis magnifica or Stichodactyla gigantea can enhance natural behaviours, though the Pink Skunk Clownfish can thrive without anemones in a well-maintained aquarium.
